Eligibility and program details
Eligibility:
- Must be a high school senior who is 18 years of age and attends school in Genesee County.
- Must be in good standing with your school.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Must have reliable transportation so that you can get to class and the internship site.
Program details:
- 12 week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Career Readiness Course at Mott Community College
- Class will be Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday from 3:30-7:30pm
- Days may change due to holidays
- Students will receive training to be a CNA, as well as training in skills needed to be productive in the workforce
- Students will get exposure to various careers that they could pursue in aging services
- Class will be Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday from 3:30-7:30pm
- 10 week internship (with stipend) at an aging services provider
- A preceptor will be provided to help train the student one on one
- Students will have access to learn about all areas of aging services that the provider has within their facility
- The internship will be 10 hours per week for the 10 week period
- Schedule will be worked out between student and site
- Students will be evaluated by their preceptor at the 5th and 10th weeks of the internship
- Students who maintain their eligibility and receive favorable evaluations from their preceptor will be eligible for a stipend during the internship phase
- Students will have the option of taking the CNA State Exam either upon completion of the class or upon completion of the internship
- Students will need to have taken the exam no later than 4 weeks after completing the internship
- Tuition reimbursement up to $4,000 will be available for students who:
- Successfully complete the CNA class
- Successfully complete internship
- Successfully pass the CNA State Exam
- Are in good standing with the Aging Services Workforce Development Program
- Enrolled in courses that are applicable toward the aging services field that will lead to an AAS, BA or BS degree in that field
- Students must maintain each of these requirements while they are pursuing their degree in order to receive the tuition reimbursement
